Wolf Livestock Conflict in Northern Wisconsin

Non-Lethal deterance methods

The Conflict

The increase in the wolf population in Northern Wisconsin has started to raise the concern of many Wisconsin hobby farmers and domestic pet owners. Due to their overpopulation, wolves have begun finding alternative opportunities for food sources. Those alternative opportunities include livestock, domestic pets, and hunting dogs. Wolves killing livestock in the region has led to many economic issues, including farmers losing produce, potential calves, and sale potential.  Because wolves are attacking the farmers, the farmers retaliate by attacking the wolves by poaching and illegal harvests. One cause of this poaching is the concern for their livestock and threats to their hounds.

Our Goal:

To provide a non-lethal method to deter wolves from preying on livestock.

Our Solution

Ultrasonic Transmission of High Frequencies

Using GPS location to chip and track wolves; and ultrasonic transmitters to produce a high-frequency pitch, only audible to wolves, that goes off after wolf detection.
